Totaljobs and the British Chambers of Commerce: New report highlights all UK industries face recruitment challenges
Totaljobs and the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) today launch their new partnership, which will see them launch the Quarterly Recruitment Outlook.
The British Chambers of Commerce helps businesses to grow and thrive, offering practical advice to UK companies through accredited Chambers in every region of the UK. Totaljobs is one of the UK’s leading job boards, giving businesses access to almost half of the UK working population and tailoring recruitment solutions to ensure employers can connect with the talent they need. The Q1 2019 report will consider the UK’s recruitment climate every three months, with responses from 6,000 businesses helping to give a snapshot of hiring intentions, predicted growth and recruitment challenges.
The first Quarterly Recruitment Outlook reveals:
- Three quarters (73%) of businesses are reporting a skills shortage
- Over half (53%) of UK businesses attempted to recruit new talent in the first quarter of 2019
- 28% of employers anticipate they will recruit new staff in the next three months
Although the report highlights that recruitment intentions are strong, it also highlights the hiring difficulties faced by UK businesses, something prevalent across multiple industries.
Totaljobs and BCC believe both the UK government and businesses need to re-focus their attention to training opportunities and investment in learning and development for staff. By ensuring firms can also access people with the skills they need through an efficient migration system is also key to close skills gaps where recruitment challenges are faced at a local level.
