January jobs rush: almost 1.3 million applications as candidates make their next career move
January 2019 is speeding by and jobseekers have been busy. We typically see a spike in activity on Totaljobs.com and Jobsite.co.uk at the start of each new year, and 2019 is no exception. Once people return back to work after the holidays, career goals are on the minds of many, meaning people are ready to get stuck into the job search.
In the first full working week of 2019, (7th-13th January), we saw 3.4 million unique visitors to The Partnership. With this came almost 1.3 million applications, a 20% increase compared to the average week last year.
The surge in traffic and applications onsite is boosted further by our recent advertising campaign. This went live in the North on 1st January and can be seen on TV, online and on outdoor media. It inspires jobseekers to get everything they need from a job, empowering them to make their move and search for a job that gives them fulfillment and ultimately ticks their boxes, whatever role they are looking for.
Martin Talbot, Director at Totaljobs, comments:
“With the new year now in full swing, it is safe to say UK workers are looking for a new challenge. In the first working week of January 2019 (7-13th January), we saw nearly 1.3 million applications on Totaljobs – this represents a huge 20% increase compared to the average week in 2018. In line with this increased demand, jobs advertised also spiked to 94,000 last week, which represents a 9% increase versus what we saw on average last year.
Jobseekers are starting off the new year as we’d expect, looking ahead to their future career plans.”
