Attracting talent to the North

High employment within the UK means businesses are recruiting in an increasingly competitive, candidate-led market. Historically, top UK talent has appeared to gravitate towards the capital for work. However, the workforce is becoming increasingly mobile and with this, the North’s offering of career opportunities, lower living costs and strong work-life balance is becoming more apparent for businesses and jobseekers alike. This is reflected in the 42% increase in jobs advertised in the last two years in cities across Northern England and Scotland, alongside a rise in job applications.

Totaljobs recently published a report looking at the rise of the “Northern Pound“, revealing that money goes almost 20% further in the North compared to London when taking into account commute cost and time, rent and earnings, to name a few factors.
